Yvelisse NUNEZ - Minerva Mirabal Sisters Campus Teacher of Science

My name is Yvelisse Nunez. I am a science teacher at Minerva Mirabal Sisters Campus in New York City. I’ve being teaching for the last 15 years. I am familiar with the entire elementary grades curriculum bitt I’ve worked mostly with middle school students. I acquired two baccalaurean degrees from Herbert H. Lehman College in New York City, one in Economics and another in Italian Literature. I also acquired a Masters of Science in Education from the same university. I also have an administration certificate from The College of St. Rose in Albany New York. Currently, I am teaching science to 6th 7th and 8th grade students. New York City utilizes a Standards based curriculum which is spiral. We incorporate all the sciences into each grade (earth science, physical science, natural science and biology).

The Global Friendship Program has allowed me and my students to go beyond the standard curriculum. It has helped students research with deep detail what space science is all about. I am extremely satisfied with the program and hope that it could be extended to the elementary school as well as the high school population.
